So set thou thy face

Be able to deal justly

With the orphans,

Marry women of your choice,

Two, or three, or four;

But if ye fear that ye shall not

Be able to deal justly (with them),

Then only one, or (a captive)

That your right hands possess.

That will be more suitable,

To prevent you

From doing injustice. Nisaa or the Women: 3 (ibid)

Researchers say that education helps people better manage their lives and overcome the problems they face such as unemployment, divorce, and the death of relatives and friends. Such scientific study confirms the significance of education, knowledge, and reading. Every day, scientists discover new benefits for knowledge. All glory to Allah, the exalted for when we contemplate the message of Islam, we find that it started with the word “read” because the first Qur’anic revelation is:

“Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-"Alaq: 96:1

This word shows that Islam is the religion of knowledge and science.

The study proved that religious patients are more capable than non-religious ones to handle pains and lower them by boosting their feeling that they are healthy. The study also found that patients who want to get closer to god are usually in a god mood and their condition is usually better than their non-religious counterparts. Besides, they are supported by the community in facing their sufferance; Allah, the exalted says:

“Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” Nahl or the Bees: 16: 97

According to a recent scientific study, 2013, it has been found that new-born babies learn while still in their mothers’ womb, six months prior to birth. It has been found that three-day babies could distinguish the voice of their mothers, fathers, and the people they used to hear their voices before being born and they are born as if they know these voices. Babies have further shown quiet and satisfaction upon hearing the voices they were used to. The study states that children could distinguish the ******** of their parents for a five-day baby has shown relief when hearing the ******** of his parents while showing annoyance when hearing a strange ******** from that of the people around him. Scientists are amazed by this phenomenon and how fetuses could analyze and distinguish voices and interact with them at such an early age. The holy Qur’an, however, connects the creation of the fetus from a clot of congealed blood to teaching them what they don’t know and it’s a miraculous thing that that the holy Qur’an reveals that man starts learning as early as being a fetus; Allah, the almighty says in the holy Qur’an:

“Proclaim! (or Read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, who created* Created man, out of

a (mere) clot of congealed blood:* Proclaim! and thy Lord is Most Bountiful,* He Who taught

(The use of) the Pen* Taught man that which he knew not.” Alaq: 96: 1-5 All glory to Allah!

Since children spend most of the time sleeping, scientists recommend making use of this time to teach children. Scientists add that the brain of new born babies has around 100 billion pre-programmed neurological cells to pick up and accurately analyze information. Scientists consider this phenomenon as a miracle of nature, but the truth is that it's Allah, the almighty who created man and made sleeping a sign and a miracle. Allah, the exalted says in the holy Qur’an:

“And among His Signs is the sleep that ye take by night and by day, and the quest that ye (make for livelihood) out of His Bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.” Rum: 30: 23

Researchers say that honey and royal jelly could constitute part of the arsenal against cancer. A researcher team of Zagreb University in Croatia has discovered a group of honey products that stopped the growth or spread of lab mice tumor and said in a published paper in the journal of the science of food and agriculture that also people who have cancer could benefit from these results. They also suggested that honey products might cause apoptosis, programmed cell death or have a direct poisonous impact on the cells or help the immune system that fights the growth of cancer cells. The team led by Dr. Nada Oursalichsaid that the study has found that honey products could be a useful material in controlling tumor growth.

In the shadow of the current wave of chronic diseases that we face due to climate change, we call upon everybody to use honey as a preventive material even healthy people should get some honey everyday and it will help their immune system to fight more diseases.

Such a study shouldn’t go without considering the Qur'anic verse that talk about honey, Allah, the almighty says:” Then to eat of allThe produce (of the earth),And find with skill the spaciousPaths of its Lord: there issuesFrom within their bodiesA drink of varying colours,

Wherein is healing for men:Verily in this is a SignFor those who give thought.”(suratNahl or the Bee: 69)

This verse confirms that honey wasn’t mentioned in the holy Qur’an in vain, but rather because Allah, the exalted knows the great healing properties of honey and that's why it's mentioned in the holy Qur'an.

New Medical News

In recent medical news, scientists have found that it’s possible to cure broken grieving hearts. American researchers have conducted experiments on seventy patients who suffer from “the broken heart syndrome”, health conditions that result from the pressures caused by psychological and emotional trouble. The group that was studied involved patients form the state of Rhode Island who suffered from this syndromebetween the years 2004 and 2008.

It was found that those patients recovered as soon as they were given aspirin or drugs that are usually taken by patients with heart diseases although 20% of them were in critical conditions. Those researchers said in a paper that was published in the American journal for heart diseases that the reason behind “broken heard syndrome” might be an increase in the pressure and anxiety hormone.

This syndrome is medically referred to as takotsubo cardiomyopathy and it was first discovered by Japanese researchers in 1990s. Although the symptoms of this syndrome resembleto a certain extent those of heart attackssuch as chest pains and dyspnea, it’s still considered a temporary syndrome that could be completely recovered if treated quickly.

How do we read this syndrome in light of the holy Qur’an?

The recent study confirms that man's emotional situation especially love impacts the heart and results in the same symptoms as that of heart diseases; what does this tell us? It simply means that the heart doesn’t merelypumps blood, but it rather interacts and is influenced by man's emotional situations. It becomes, therefore, obvious why Allah, The Almighty says in the holy Qur’an:

“And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower Desires* Their Abode will be the Garden.” Nazi’at: 40-14

Allah, The Almighty commands us not to drift towards illegal affairs that might end with broken hearts and Allah also gives us glad tidings of Paradise for abiding by such noble teachings and also in this world we can guarantee our hearts safety and tranquility.

The holy Qur’an also talks in more than fifty verses about the function of hearts for hearts grieve, become happy, fear, learn, learn wisdom, love, hate, and disgust and have many other features that scientists are still exploring little by little. Hence, hearts are influenced by love and we can say that the heart is a reservoir for emotional relations, so our relations couldbe based on the love and satisfaction of Allah, and hence we love and hate only for the sake of Allah. This grants us absolute tranquility and peace of mind which is exactly what Allah says in the holy Qur’an:

"Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of God: for without doubt in the remembrance of God do hearts find satisfaction.” Ra’d or Thunder: 28

Allah also says:

“Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom

and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts.” Hajj or the Pilgrimage: 46

This great verse proves that hearts learn wisdom and get blind, but how is that?

Unfortunately, scientists haven’t studied the relationship between atheism and hearts yet. Science, therefore, doesn't acknowledge the significance of faith for the safety of the heart and the stability of its functions. We as Muslims, however, have the Qur’anic foundation that affirms that atheists’ hearts are sick. Allah, The Great says:

“In their hearts is a disease; and God has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”Baqara : 10

We believe that hearts become truly and seriously sick; in other words, just like love, passion, and failure emotional affairs all make hearts truly sick, atheism also causes heart diseases. This point, however, requires more research although recent scientific studies confirm that faith is vital for the heart’s safety especially after discovering that believers recover faster than atheists. Accordingly, scientists began to call on the significance of faith as a means of curing chronic diseases. We, therefore, call upon Muslim physicians to conduct scientific experiments (they are extremely easy experiments and don’t cost much, all we really need is to fully depend on Allah) to test the heart and its relation with faith or atheism and I think that such research will have a great impact on the call to Islam and the persuasion of non-Muslims of the great reality of Islam.

A recent study affirms that eatingfewer calories means a better memory for this study says that reducing the amount of calories might help old people boost their memory. A recent scientific study has found that eatingfewer calories is extremely significant to boost man’s memory especially old people.
Researchers at the University of Munster in Germany has found that the participants in the study of both genders who followed a low calorie diet exhibited the best performance in verbal memory tests as compared to others who didn't follow the same diet.
Veronica Witt along with the research team of the university said that the results were the first scientific evidence to show that eatingfewer calories helps boost the memory of adult. A previous study which was conducted on animals had also shown that following a low calorie diet as well as another diet that's rich in “healthy” fats protects the brain form the symptoms of aging.
The study which lasted for three months included 50 overweight men and women whose average age is around 60 years old. The participants were divided into three groups:
The first group was restricted to 30% calorie diet.
The second group's diet depended on more unsaturated fatty acids such as olive oil and certain types of fish.
The third group didn't follow any particular diet and was referred to as the “control” group.
Three months later, the first group exhibited an obvious improvement in verbal memory test as well as the ability to recall words unlike the second and third groups whose participantsshowed no memory improvement what so ever.
Researchers say that the current results might help develop new preventive strategies and treatments to protect the brain and memory health when getting old. This study follows another study according to which researchers have found that diets that depend on avoiding foods that are rich in carbohydrates might result in depriving the brain from the required energy to perform its tasks properly.
The study that included women between 22- 55 years old has shown that women who followed a diet that’s low in foods that are rich in carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, and macaroni suffered from weakness in their memory just one week after following such diet.
What does this diet mean to us as Muslims?
We can conclude from this study as well as other studies conducted by nutritionists that eating in moderation is the best method for exaggeration of starvation weakens the memory, but at the same time overeating also weakens the memory, so what's the solution?
Listen to the following Qur'anic verse that specifies the right diet for Allah, The Almighty commands us to enjoy the foods and beverages He granted us provided that we don't waste or eat huge quantities of food; Allah says in the holy Qur’an:
“O Children of Adam! wear your beautiful apparel at every time and place of prayer: eat and drink: but waste not by excess, for God loveth not the wasters.” A’raf: 7: 31
As for those who follow a severe diet and starve preventing themselves from moderate diets, scientists assert that such diets have serious consequences such as low immunity, weak memory, and psychological disorders. Allah, therefore, says in the holy Qur'an:
“Say: Who hath forbidden the beautiful (gifts) of God, which He hath produced for His servants, and the things, clean and pure, (Which He hath provided) for sustenance? Say: they are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) purely for them on the Day of Judgment. Thus do We explain the signs in detail for those who understand.” A’raf: 7: 32
The verse that follows is:
“Say: the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds, whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to God, for which He hath given no authority; and saying things about God of which ye have no knowledge.” A’raf: 7:33
Dear brothers and sisters, let’s contemplate this balanced and moderate system which Islam came with 14 centuries ago. When man commits shameful deeds, disbelieves in God, and announces shameful deeds, it’s considered the worst kind of excessiveness and exaggeration. If we have a look at the average of violence, suicide, crimes, rape, etc. we'll notice that such average is very high in pornographic communities. Islam, therefore, commands us to be moderate and balanced in every aspect of our life including food, drinks, dealings, and relationships, and morals. Allah prohibits adultery but permits marriage; prohibits interest and usury but permits trade; prohibits waste and extravagancein eating as well as in anything else but permits moderation and balance and Islam therefore is a balance. Allah, The Exalted says in the holy Qur'an:
“Thus have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Apostle a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Apostle from those who would turn on their heels (from the Faith). Indeed it was (a change) momentous, except to those guided by God. and never would God make your faith of no effect. For God is to all people most surely full of kindness, most Merciful.” Baqara : 2:143
