![]() The crushing of the earth and explosion of the mountains ‘Abdullah bin Hamoud al-Furaih The horrors of the Day of Judgment (1) Pondor, oh blessed one, on these great things that we are still interested in -their greatness, their strength, the earth, the mountains, the rivers, the heavens, the sun and the moon. What will be their condition do you think?Pondor on their condition to know the coming horrors and know what will be our condition. How will the meeting with Allah Almighty? The crushing of the earth and explosion of the mountains Allah Almighty has reported that this earth that we are living on and what it has from high mountains will be carried on the Day of Resurrection so they are crushed in a single crush: {فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ ¹ وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً * فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ} “Then when the Horn is blown with one blast. And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow. Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur” [Al Haaqa: 13-15] And His words Almighty: {كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكّاً دَكّاً} “No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed” [Al Fajar: 21] After this crushing, the solid mountains will turn to soft sand. Allah Almighty says: {يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيباً مَّهِيلاً} “On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down” [Al Muzammil: 14] Meaning: they become like the overlapping sand after they were solid rock. Maheel sand is: the (type) that if something is taken from it, what is left follows it. In another context: finally, the mountains get destroyed. Allah Almighty says: {إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجّاً * وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسّاً * فَكَانَتْ هَبَاء مُّنبَثّاً} “When the earth is shaken with convulsion. And the mountains are Bassa. And become Haba Mumbassa” [Al Waqia: 4-6] Bassa i.e.: crumbled completely. Haba: dust. Mumbassa: which is scattered by the wind. Finally in another context: that the mountains shall be like ihin i.e.: like wool. Allah Almighty says: {وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ} “And the mountains will be like wool” [Al Maarij: 9] In another narration: like fluffy wool. Allah Almighty says: {وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ} “And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up” [Al Qaria: 5] Then Allah melts down the mountains from their positions and levels the earth making it qaan safsafa i.e.: levelled: without any peaks or dips. Allah Almighty says: {وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّي نَسْفاً * فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعاً صَفْصَفاً * لَا تَرَى فِيهَا عِوَجاً وَلَا أَمْتاً} “And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast. And He will leave the earth a level plain. You will not see therein a depression or an elevation.” [Taha: 105-107] And He said: {وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ} “And when the mountains are blown away” [Al Mursalat: 10] Meaning: were pulled out of their place And He said: {وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَاباً} “And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage” [Al Naba: 20] Meaning: the onlooker imagines that they are seeing something but there is nothing there but a mirage. Allah Almighty says: {وَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ صُنْعَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ إِنَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَفْعَلُونَ} “And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. [It is] the work of Allah , who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with that which you do.” [Al Naml: 88] And He said: {وَيَوْمَ نُسَيِّرُ الْجِبَالَ وَتَرَى الْأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً} “And [warn of] the Day when We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth prominent.” [Al Kahf: 47] Meaning: clearing, with no peak on it or dip.
